Dr. P.G. Maheepala, Secretary of Health from the Ministry of Health, visited the Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital in Ragama on February 3, 2024. During his visit, he made several important announcements aimed at enhancing patient care and facilities at the hospital.

Dr. Maheepala revealed that the government has allocated 50 million rupees for the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment. Additionally, 100 million rupees have been earmarked for the renovation of the existing hospital buildings. These investments are expected to significantly improve patient outcomes and overall infrastructure.

Dr. Maheepala expressed his vision for the hospital to become the National Center for Rheumatology and Rehabilitation in Sri Lanka. This designation would position the hospital as a hub for specialized care, research, and training in the field.

The Secretary emphasized the importance of integrating advanced technology into the hospital’s operations. Specifically, he highlighted the potential of 3D printing for creating customized prosthetics and orthotics. This cutting-edge approach will enhance patient mobility and comfort.

On the same day as Dr. Maheepala’s visit, the hospital held an annual pirith chanting ceremony. The soothing chants reverberated throughout the hospital, bringing solace to patients and staff alike. This spiritual practice underscores the hospital’s commitment to holistic healing.
