Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital, Ragama, Sri Lanka (RRH)has more than 50 years of expertise in providing treatment to Rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders, Medical and Physical rehabilitation services. Our highly trained clinicians provide the most advanced therapy and medical care, for people with physical disabilities & Rheumatological diseases to help people reach their highest level of recovery.

We are the national research hub for physical and medical rehabilitation in Sri Lanka, and are devoted to conducting innovative research studies that will expand our clinicians ‘ knowledge and science of recovery of patients.

 We serve as an educational facility for training various professionals in medical and healthcare disciplines including, medical students,medical officers,Post graduate trainees, physiotherapists and occupational therapists, Prosthetists and Orthotists, Speech and language therapists and  nurses.

Rehabilitation Department

Welcome to the Rehabilitation Department at the Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital Ragama. Our department is dedicated to providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to enhance our patient’s quality of life and functional independence.

We offer a multidisciplinary approach to rehabilitation, integrating the expertise of consultant Rehabilitation Physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, prosthetists, orthotists, and other specialized healthcare professionals. Our team is committed to delivering personalized care plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each patient, whether they are recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions, or seeking to improve mobility and function.

At the Rehabilitation Department, we are dedicated to advancing rehabilitation care through ongoing research, education, and collaboration with other healthcare facilities. Physiotherapy Department

The Physiotherapy Department at our hospital is the largest and most comprehensive rehabilitation physiotherapy facility in Sri Lanka. It features four specialized units each tailored to address diverse patient needs: the Orthopedic Physiotherapy Unit, Spinal Cord Injury Physiotherapy Unit, General Physiotherapy Unit, and Pediatric Physiotherapy Unit.

These units are staffed by skilled professionals dedicated to improving patient mobility, function, and quality of life. Physiotherapy offers a range of benefits, including pain relief, enhanced physical strength, improved mobility, and prevention of further injuries. Our physiotherapy department plays a crucial role in rehabilitation following surgeries, injuries, or medical conditions, supporting individuals in regaining independence and optimizing their physical well-being.This department stands as a model of excellence in rehabilitation care, addressing the unique needs of patients with innovative techniques and compassionate service.

Occupational therapy Department

As a cornerstone of rehabilitation services, our department at RRH is dedicated to helping individuals achieve independence and improve their quality of life through tailored therapeutic interventions. We offer specialized care through its four dedicated units: the Orthopedic Occupational Therapy Unit, Spinal Cord Injury Occupational Therapy Unit, General Occupational Therapy Unit, and Pediatric Occupational Therapy Unit. Each unit is staffed with experienced occupational therapists committed to providing care that addresses the unique needs of our patients.

The department provides personalized interventions to enhance motor skills, cognitive abilities, and functional independence Occupational therapy addresses emotional and psychological aspects, offering essential support for mental well-being. By focusing on the physical, emotional, and social dimensions of health, occupational therapy delivers holistic care, ensuring comprehensive support throughout the patient’s recovery journey.

Vocational Rehabilitation Centre

The Vocational Rehabilitation Center at the Rheumatology and Rehabilitation Hospital in Ragama is dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through comprehensive vocational training and rehabilitation services. Established in collaboration with the Department of Social Services and the Department of Health Services, the center aims to enhance the quality of life for its patients by providing them with the skills and support needed to achieve independence and social integration.

The center offers a range of training courses designed to cater to the diverse needs of individuals with disabilities, including those with spinal cord injuries and other physical impairments. Courses such as Radio, Television Technology, Computer Skills, and Dressmaking, are available, with durations ranging from six months to two years. These programs are tailored to help patients develop their talents and capabilities, enabling them to lead productive and fulfilling lives.

Located just a kilometer from Ragama along the Ragama-Kadawatha road, the center is easily accessible and provides a supportive environment for both residential patients and outpatient training. The center’s holistic approach to rehabilitation ensures that patients receive not only vocational training but also psychological and emotional support, fostering a sense of community and belonging.
